Dr. Andrew Arnold says, ‘As a Chiropractor, I am often asked what can I do to reach my health goals; get out pain; maintain optimal health?’

My experience is the answer is not found in a treatment modality? That’s right, Chiro, Osteopathy, Myotherapy, Naturopathy, Physiotherapy, even Medical intervention, and surgery are not solely able to provide you with the answers you are looking for?

So if you’re asking your practitioner to ‘fix’ you and give you all the answers to a pain-free, healthier living, they can’t do this. This only serves to put pressure on you and them without reaching your goals.

I recently attended my annual Chiropractic and Osteopathic convention which focused on patient-centered care, not practitioner centered care and clinical evidence supporting this.

The evidence absolutely pointed to 2 things which have the greatest impact on creating a sustainable, patient-centered, optimal health outcome: Time and Exercise.

That’s right, no mention of any modality, drugs or surgery!

Please understand I’m not completely negating the great work you and I do, far from it.

When a patient presents for initial care we need to take care of them, this is the practitioner focused part of the equation. The difference moving forwards, however, is accepting and embracing that our goal is to empower, train and educate our patients so that they can move towards a patient-centered model where they are in control and we become part of their process.

This means injecting both time and exercise into the process alongside a preventative modality based process.

Knowing when to see our clients and when not is critical. Providing specific, tailored, lifestyle-integrated exercise and rehab is also fundamental to helping our clients reach a manageable, preventative program.

As a Chiropractor, for 80% of my clients I find 10 adjustments per year alongside a structured exercise program and usually, one other modality such as Myotherapy or Naturopathy keeps my patients happy and empowered. It is the time between visits and what they do in that time which is key and this is what was supported at the conference.

So rest assured, at Cranbourne Family Chiropractic and Wellness Centre we aim to NOT under or over schedule you; we aim to gently support and encourage you to help yourself with the right tools. We recommend an active process where you become the captain of your own boat.
