Maybe one of the most important brain vitamins could be B6. It is a cofactor for the production of many neurotransmitters such as dopamine and serotonin. It also binds to cortisol nuclear receptor and will lower or downregulate cortisone, which is known to induce depression. Food sources include beans, nuts, eggs, legumes, meats, and fish.
As a Naturopath, I recommend Watermelon, high in Citrulline, which may help improve hypertension and cardiovascular disease. This is because the citrulline converts to arginine, which is then converted to nitric oxide.
Cows milk allergy has been shown to cause insomnia. This may be due to the production of prostaglandin 2. Regulation of prostaglandin pathways, therefore, may be essential to the quality of sleep. PGE2 has a strong awakening effect and suppresses sleep. PGE2 inhibits the release of 5HT (serotonin); DHA/EPA (omega 3s) improves prostaglandin metabolism. At Cranbourne Family Chiropractic and Wellness Centre we carry in stock the highest quality in DHA/EPA.
