Our Naturopaths understand how important diet and nutrition is to your overall health as well as having the right guidance and support to achieve diet-based goals or to support nutritional changes for better health.
We also know that prescribing a set (and restrictive) diet is not the best way to go for most people. It can actually be very demotivating, especially if it’s imposed without considering what else is going on in the individual’s life.
So how do we work?
We start at the very beginning and take a good look at your overall health and diet. Here’s an example of our approach.
When people come to us for dietary or wellness help, it’s often for these two reasons.
- Weight issues – they are not sure why they can’t lose weight
- Excessive tiredness – they are constantly exhausted and may even have chronic fatigue syndrome and don’t know this is related to their diet.
We’ve found that many people believe they are healthy and strive to eat the right foods but sometimes they aren’t making the best food choices. Sometimes, too, there may be other issues going on that are hindering their efforts.
This means you’re going to have to make some changes in your diet and perhaps even in your life.
Coaching for change
Our naturopath is a trained wellness coach who understands the change process from your point of view and can guide you through it. This approach minimises the stress you might feel as you begin your new way of life.
Often there is an underlying emotional issue which has prodded people towards the wrong food and lifestyle choices. Together we work to identify the issue and deal with it.
There is no ‘one size fits all’ when it comes to lifestyle change. You are unique so we look at how you want to change and choose the way which makes the process less stressful for you. It’s a more flexible approach and because it fits well with the way you prefer to work, it’s easier to stay motivated each day.
We start by looking at your current diet and the best way to do that is to keep a food diary for a week.
We track the foods you eat while also tracking the effect on the symptoms which have been bothering you, along with your energy levels and sugar cravings. It’s amazing how clearly you can see the connection once you stop and document everything.
We don’t impose a strict diet plan because it just doesn’t work. Instead we provide options based on the foods you like to eat. This is much more successful and most people will get a grip on the new diet (way of eating) within 7 days.
Together we continue to monitor your symptoms and how you respond to the dietary changes.
Amazingly, within just 7 days most people see up to a 60% reduction in the symptoms which have been bothering them.
The remaining 40% of symptoms are harder to shift but the results are worth the effort you put in. If it’s necessary, we will prescribe supplements to assist the process, and herbal medicines if there is an acute situation that will help facilitate the best outcome for you.
Nutritional coaching sessions help keep you motivated and on track with your changes, as well as offer you encouragement when you need it.
With coaching and support you learn to understand what has been happening to your body, why and what to do to make yourself better again. Your health is in your hands, where it belongs.
