Diagnosis is essentially clinical meaning, you have pain, we palpate or feel the affected area and this re-creates the pain or more.
Dr. Andrew Arnold explains, a plain film x-ray often reveals a coccyx which is bent under, and in my experience, lumbar disc problems like bulges are often associated.
The truth of the matter is this can be a long-standing, very debilitating problem where something as simple as sitting at your desk at work is just not possible.
Treatment approaches vary, from Cortisone injections by your GP, Chiropractic manipulations which I will discuss further on, Soft tissue techniques, exercise advice…all the way thru to removing the coccyx entirely…Ouch!
There is hope, however, before you reach this end. As a Chiropractor, working with some very skilled Remedial Massage Therapists and Myotherapists, we can offer a range of techniques which can help. Keep in mind the road may still be long, but better than the more radical medical alternatives.
So, at Cranbourne Family Chiropractic and Wellness Centre, our Chiropractors gently manipulate and mobilize the coccyx, sacrum and lumbar spinal joints; our Massage Therapists apply pressure to help release the ligaments and muscles around the pelvic floor, gluts and low back, gently traction the spinal cord and alleviate cord tension and any tethering, and our Physical Conditioning expert helps provide you with some exercise advice.
Of course, using a doughnut cushion is a good idea and we can certainly help you choose the one right for you. Exercises are not conventional and need to be taught. Our Exercise and physical Conditioning coach Karen Whittley can help you here.
Please know there is hope, call our clinic today and set up a time. Your first visit can be with either our Chiropractor or Massage Therapist. 59984554. Visit us online for more information.
