Chronic Neck Pain > A Case Study.

A 67-year-old lady presented to me with chronic left sided, upper neck pain and associated headaches and dizziness.

Attractive Mature Woman Rubbing Her Neck

Her history was relatively unremarkable, i.e. no trauma or pathology. She had had numerous tests ranging from blood’, to Brain and Neck MRI’s, x-rays etc. to no avail.

The pain had been present for over 6months and was significantly impacting her sleep and quality of life.

My neurological and orthopedic exam was unremarkable, however, the atlas, (The top cervical vertebrae in the neck just below the skull bone) was mal-positioned to the left side.

Dr. Andrew Arnold says, ‘Chiropractors refer to this as ‘subluxation’ where the joint is very slightly out of alignment enough to irritate the delicate spinal cord, spinal nerves and brain stem in the vicinity.’

In my view, this was also contributing to her dizziness.

Once I had ruled out all pathology and deemed it safe to proceed I performed a left, C1 Chiropractic adjustment using a mechanical device associated with my Chiropractic table.

The patient reported immediate relief, which was very apparent in her face. She, in fact, became quite overcome, tears of joy.

I re-assess her and re-scheduled a follow up for 2wks. She has continued to improve and her neck pain and headaches are a thing of the past.

If you are suffering from headache and neck pain and you have had many tests with no result, I would recommend seeing your local Chiropractor.

Chiropractors are highly trained to manage this type of condition oftentimes without the necessity for drugs.
